Dear colleagues,

The winter holiday season is here! And for New Year’s Day, I traditionally draw up a list of resolutions, to become my personal action plan for the year.

This year, I have a longer list of action items arising from the development of a new Strategic Action Plan for CHHA-BC. Over the last few months, the members of the CHHA-BC board have taken a hard look at our mission and objectives to ensure we are relevant, responsive and focusing on key priorities of our hearing loss community. We have built upon the feedback received from members in a survey undertaken last year. We have developed detailed action items which will be further defined by tasks and timelines with an identified team lead to ensure the achievement of the Plan.

Essentially, the Action Plan has three themes called areas of Strategic Focus:
• Community Engagement, Communications, Awareness and Education.
• Advocacy on Accessibility
• Sustaining our Organization

Each of these areas of Strategic Focus is defined by a Goal, Objectives, and Action Items. For example, one of our goals is to advocate for measures that create a more accessible and inclusive British Columbia society for people impacted by hearing loss. We currently have position papers on hearing aids and captioning and are looking to identify further areas requiring our advocacy. This is just one example of activities under an objective. We expect to complete the developmental phase of the Plan by end of January when it will be ready to share it with you.

A key component of the Plan will be a Call for Action, as we realize that we cannot implement the Plan alone. We need you! We need your engagement and help to achieve CHHA-BC’s mission of improving the quality of lives of persons with hearing loss and to promote their full participation in society. My email is below if you would like to volunteer now. We will also be issuing the Call for Action in coming months.

On behalf of the board members and staff of CHHA-BC, I would like to wish you and your loved ones all the best this holiday season and a wonderful New Year.

Seasonal warmest greetings,

Ruth Warick
