TEXT with 911 – Lower Mainland area**

The 9-1-1 centre in Metro Vancouver (E-Comm www.ecomm911.ca) started a new service for the Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Speech Impaired (DHHSI) that allows DHHSI persons to communicate with a 9-1-1 operator through a special text system. It is available to pre-registered Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and Speech Impaired (DHHSI) persons.

**It is available to the following areas: Metro Vancouver area, Squamish Lillooet Regional District, Sunshine Coast Regional District, University of BC, University Endowment Lands, Barnston Island, Howe Sound Communities, and Indian Arm/Pitt Lake Communities (Boulder Island, Carraholly Point, Northern Portion of Indian Arm and West side of Pitt Lake).

Vancity Wins 2013 Access and Inclusion Award!!

On November the 21st, 2013, Vancouver City Savings Credit Union (Vancity Credit Union) was awarded the 2013 Access and Inclusion Award by the City of Vancouver. Vancity was honoured with this award for installing assistive listening devices for the hard of hearing, including induction loop systems at the teller wickets in all 56 of their branches. The system was installed by Advanced Listening Systems, Victoria. Mayor Gregor Robertson stated, “Vancity continuously and consistently demonstrates their leadership and commitment to eliminating accessibility and inclusion barriers through their business, hiring and community minded practices.
